“Retro” Project Life

By |May 20th, 2014|crafts, Life, Photography, Uncategorized|

I’m still working on my 2012 Project life album which officially puts me at two years behind in the scrap-booking world. So the Project Life posts you see on here are all “Retro”. It sounds better than “really late”. I’ve accepted the fact that I will probably never be the person who documents each week as it is happening. I tried it that way at first, but would get frustrated if I missed a week and if I was super busy it turned into a chore instead of something I enjoyed. So instead of a weekly requirement, I use Project Life as a fun and easy format to document each year. I have a binder for each year with a few spreads per month, depending on how much was going on.  So here it is:

 <<Retro April, 2012>>

Most of the card inserts are from the Blush Project Life kit. I also like to use paper souvenirs as inserts where I can. For this spread I used Billy Elliott tickets, the Stagecoach program and even a beer label I saved from Beerfest.  For both Stagecoach and Coachella they sent a rub on sticker with the tickets which I spread over three cards to make the large headings you see above and below. For the Beerfest title card, I used temporary tattoos of beer companies that they gave out and applied them to paper to make a collage.

No excuses. DIY challenge.

The truth is I’m busy. Really busy. And as much as I love this blog, sometimes I get stressed when I don’t have time to blog every day, or  to do intensive projects. So I’m trying to find ways to stay creative and stay inspired, without stressing myself out.  Enter the no excuses challenge. This is a self challenge with no rules or rewards aside from creativity and stress-free-ness. Basically, every day I’m setting aside 30 minutes each day to do something creative. This creative time will be for no other reason than to have fun. When I’m done I will revel in the result, perfect or not. Here is my first challenge result, it doesn’t get much simpler than this!

Get a ceramic mug and a paint pen. The paint pen should be a porcelain paint so it will stay. I used Sharpie paint pens. Then get to drawing, or dotting in my case.

You can also use stencils or stickers to help guide you. I used a letter as an initial for a friend, and then peeled it off and filled in the letter.

When you finish up stick your mug in the oven while it is off, and then turn the oven on to 350 and set the timer for 30 minutes.  Let the mug cool off and you should have a permanent design! Hand wash only.

2013 photo a day project

In 2013 I continued my daily instagram tradition. I love capturing daily activities, big and small. Not only is it a great way to remember events, but it forces me to find beauty and excitement even on the boring or tough days. Whether I’m on an amazing vacation or working late, I always  look for something to celebrate and capture. It’s become a great tradition, one  that I have no plan of giving up! This year I helped myself out by labeling the photos with dates. I used two different apps- Label Box and Pic Lab to transpose the dates prior to uploading on Instagram. This step is definitely optional, but after the hours of sorting through photos last year the dates were a welcome addition! I will admit that there were days that I transposed dates or made typos. Highly awkward at the time but funny in retrospect. I created the book through Blurb like last year. I like the idea of making each book the same size and building a collection.

One day we can look back not only on the big events in our lives but on the little things that really count. Like Riesling wanting to be a part of the photo shoot action^
