No excuses. DIY challenge.

The truth is I’m busy. Really busy. And as much as I love this blog, sometimes I get stressed when I don’t have time to blog every day, or  to do intensive projects. So I’m trying to find ways to stay creative and stay inspired, without stressing myself out.  Enter the no excuses challenge. This is a self challenge with no rules or rewards aside from creativity and stress-free-ness. Basically, every day I’m setting aside 30 minutes each day to do something creative. This creative time will be for no other reason than to have fun. When I’m done I will revel in the result, perfect or not. Here is my first challenge result, it doesn’t get much simpler than this!

Get a ceramic mug and a paint pen. The paint pen should be a porcelain paint so it will stay. I used Sharpie paint pens. Then get to drawing, or dotting in my case.

You can also use stencils or stickers to help guide you. I used a letter as an initial for a friend, and then peeled it off and filled in the letter.

When you finish up stick your mug in the oven while it is off, and then turn the oven on to 350 and set the timer for 30 minutes.  Let the mug cool off and you should have a permanent design! Hand wash only.

Project 11/52: Dangle DIY Earrings

By |April 16th, 2013|accessories, crafts, DIY|

After my amateur hour earrings I decided to adventure beyond super glue and studs. I picked out these black beads and gold links to make some simple dangles. I also bought a bunch of findings from JoAnne’s and a set of jewelry pliers. Who knew there were so many different kinds of pliers for jewelry making? Not me. I ended up putting little shipping tags on each pair to keep track of what they were for.  I also had no idea how to even properly open a jump ring. Thankfully after a few YouTube videos and lots of practice I got the basics  down. Well, at least enough to make these earrings!

Far from perfect- but wearable! I had so much fun coming up with the design and struggling expirementing with the new tools and techniques. There is something very satisfying about learning a new skill, even if it takes a while. Can’t wait to make more!

Project 10/52: Easy Stud Earring DIY

By |April 9th, 2013|52 Projects, accessories, crafts|

Ever since my ring button adventure, I have been itching to try my hand at more jewelry making. The jewelry district is conveniently just a few blocks away so I trekked down there in search of inspiration. I didn’t have anything specific in mind which was a total rookie move. I ended up buying a bunch of random beads, findings and wire with no rhyme or reason. When I got home I was kind of overwhelmed with all the random purchases and trying to use them to create something cohesive. So I decided to start as basic as possible. I had some studs that I planned on using on a purse and realized they would also make fun earrings. So I took the bling and literally just glued them on to earring backings, and bent back the stud fasteners. Voila! Easy DIY stud earrings
