How to use Illustrator to design a wall layout

Living in a loft means lots of open wall space. I love the high ceilings and open feel, but it’s definitley a challenge to find art/photos that work in the space. We decided that it would be fun to do all original artwork, so we ordered large canvas prints of some photographs we had taken. Then came the hard part- figuring out where to put them! Steve being the techie he is suggested using Adobe Illustrator to layout different options.

First we created a basic grid outline of the wall we wanted to decorate.

Then I added new layers and pasted images of the two canvases we wanted to hang, and resized them to scale.

I also added simple shapes with the shape tool to represent the existing furniture on the wall.

Then it was just a matter of moving around the images on the screen until I found the perfect fit, and Voila!
