This weekend my cousin Nick got married on a beautiful golf course up in NorCal. We had so much fun at the wedding! I am lucky to say that not only do I love my family but I truly enjoy their company. My mom is from a family of six so family events are always large and loud.  Our extended family all live in the bay area of further so I always look forward to seeing them on special occasions like weddings and holidays. We drove up Friday which was pretty hectic. We left at 3 and didn’t get up there until 1030. Thankfully we had In N Out, candy, and satellite radio to get us through. I also bought David Sedaris’ new book “Let’s Explore Diabetes with Owls” and started reading it aloud to Steve while he drove. To be honest I’m not hooked on it yet- I really love his book “Me Talk Pretty One Day” and so far this one has left me underwhelmed. I’m only on the fifth chapter so hoping it grows on me!

The wedding on Saturday was perfect. Hot, but perfect. We danced the night away. One of my favorite moments was Steve leading the crowd in the Cupid Shuffle. Hilarious. Congrats Nick and Sam!

On a more somber note, we stayed at my grandma’s house and it was tough to see her health and memory really fading. She has always been a role model to me as a strong, intelligent, independent woman. She graduated from Berkeley with a  journalism degree at a time where most women, if they went to college, were studying home economics. She worked at a newspaper her whole life and was a career woman even while raising six kids. She is one of the most intelligent people I know- a total trivia buff, and the reason I am obsessed with crossword puzzles. In the past couple years she has been suffering from some health setbacks and Alzheimer’s has been creeping in. It’s a really tough thing to see. As much as I want to spend time with her, it’s also hard to be around because they seem like a different person.  Regardless, I treasure the time with her and am so thankful for the many years I have been blessed to have her in my life. The family is working to get her into a care facility which is another tough issue to navigate. It’s hard but also a reminder of how fragile and short life is. Hug those you love close, and be thankful for every moment!

love and candy,
