Weekend Round Up: Coachella Edition
Music, friends, sunshine, dancing… it’s pretty hard not to love Coachella- and this year was no exception. I took a half day off work on Friday and drove out to La Quinta where my friend Lo has a house just a few miles from the Empire Polo Field (aka Coachella land). There were 8 of us this year, some of us seasoned vets, and some first-timers. It was so fun to catch up with everybody. Most days we hung out by the pool in the morning and left around 330 for the festival. As much as I would love be there at 11am every day, 13 hours in the heat is just too much for my old bones!
The music was (obviously) awesome. Everyone always asks what my favorite band was- and that’s just an unfair question! Part of the allure of Coachella is that you see such a variety of music genres and that makes it hard to compare. So no, I won’t pick a favorite, but here are some highlights:
Throwbacks: Jurassic 5, Postal Service, and Wu Tang (pictured below)
Dance Beats: Major Lazer, Kill the Noise (pictured below) and Pretty Lights
Alt/Indie et.al: The Lumineers, Passion Pit, and James Blake
There were a lot of other sets I enjoyed but unlike in previous years, no single performance blew me away above and beyond the others. What did blow me away was the wind. Sunday a huge windstorm came in and the temperature suddenly dropped from the 90’s to the low 50’s and sand and dust filled the air. It was gross! I didn’t bring a sweater (rookie move, I know) and had to buy one there. Steve was sweet enough to wait in the long store line with me, surrounded by other shivering girls also ready to drop $50 on an ugly hoodie to survive the chill. Whatever- totally worth it! We drove home late Sunday night and let me tell you Monday was rough! But I made it to work on time and with the help of multiple starbucks trips made it through the day.
Bravo Coachella, bravo.
love and candy,
